What Will Get You To Where You Feel Will Be Your True Success?
What I've Done: A little of my journey
What I've Done: A little of my journey
- Started out very nervous and lacking confidence
- My first little feel good thing was making small sales to some strangers - the excitement of the sale
- Getting my first ten Appointments
- Earning lots of recognition
- Belief that I could do this
- Best single sales $3000
- Earned a company diamond ring in six months and moved to a management position
- Moved to a top management position in one year
- Earned a company car in two years
- More diamond rings, two international trips & another new car
- Trained three others to take on a top management position
I know for me each little success built more confidence and before I knew it my successes got bigger and bigger! And I've grown with my successes.
When I look back now at how I achieved my first car I am to this day amazed because I don't know how I did it except that I wanted it so much it drove me (excuse the pun) to do what I needed to do.
When your passion and purpose are bigger than your fear & insecurity you unleash the power inside you and you find a way!
What I know about myself is that a couple of my strengths are....
- Willingness to step beyond my comfort zone - what do I mean by that? Willingness to put myself in a situation where I might feel foolish or uncomfortable if I see a future benefit or advantage in doing so.
- Discipline and Focus
- Persistence
We must embrace challenge to grow!
When we're not seeing the successes but keep going anyway we are building strength in our achievement legs and eventually the successes start coming and don't we get excited when we get the long-awaited sale or finally our bookings are holding or we sealed the deal with a new recruit. Our confidence grows with each positive outcome but remember each positive outcome came about because we didn't give up.
The strength of a child is fierce determination
They also have few inhibitions
They tell it as it is
They look you in the eye
They're fearless
But over the course of their childhood things change and their confidence wanes as they are introduced into an environment where negativity rules -"no you can't do that; no you can't have that; no we can't afford it; no not now; stop dreaming, it is way out of your reach, get your head out of the clouds; what makes you better than anyone else to think you can achieve that?"
It takes a strong person to rise above this constant negative assault which often results in our own disbelief and fear to take action.
You know, many times we might try things and not see any results - no sales - no bookings etc and we get discouraged but if you have persistence success will come.
Think of a child learning to walk. He attempts to stand and falls over but tries again. Initially he's not experiencing any success but he's not put off - he keeps trying - there's something driving him - and because he keeps trying every time he gets up he's actually building strength in his legs and finding out about balance. Then the next thing he's managed to teeter for a second longer before he falls and oh the excitement, a moment of glee for that 'little success' - and the applause from those watching on makes him more excited and eager to try again.
But you know what doesn't happen with this child? He doesn't get to the point where he's almost standing without holding on and then decide to give up and go through life just sitting on his bottom, never realizing that if he just tried a few more times he would be standing and walking, running and jumping.
In fact I can't think of any healthy child who stops trying to walk before he's achieved it. Can You?
The child doesn't see falling down as a failure, he learns a little more each time until walking comes as second nature.
Remember When your passion and purpose are bigger than your fear and insecurity you unleash the power inside you and you find a way!
Sometimes I ask myself what stops us from approaching others?
- Is it because we don't want them to say "no" to us and then we feel silly and awkward for asking?
- Do we doubt ourselves and our ability?
- Do we wonder if what we are offering is good enough?
- Do we feel embarrassed about what we are offering or feel their perception of what we are offering has little value?
Ask yourself, "Does this company support your values?"
Are you certain about what you have to offer with your company and products?
Because whoever has the most certainty wins the game!
So what WILL get you to where you feel will be your True Success?
I believe there are four crucial steps that will take any of us to where we want to go.
Firstly...
Decide What You Want!
- Beautiful Home
- Financial Wealth
- (whatever it is for you)
Decide Why You Want It!
- Feel I deserve it and a sense of pride
- Travel the world and offer financial assistance to others
- (Why do you want it?)
Decide What You Are Prepared To Give Up to Get It!
- three evenings and Saturday morning, favourite TV program etc....
- (be honest with yourself, what are you really prepared to give up)
Get To Work! - Take Action.
- Action Plan - What's our aim? Find new clients. Increase Sales
- (Your aim will determine your action)
Sometimes we have to find our reasons again but to become a true success basically comes down to these four steps.
Decide What You Want!
Decide Why You Want It
Decide What You Are Prepared To Give Up to Get It!
Get To Work!
Words from Mary Kay Ash "Don't ever give up! You must have perseverance. Most people are ready to give up at the first sign of trouble. Lack of persistence is one of the major causes of failure. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems at hand. We all have problems, but how we meet them makes the difference. One person gives up, another perseveres, and armed with new knowledge borne of trying, finds a way to succeed. How do you see a rocky path, stumbling blocks or stepping-stones? It's the point of view that counts."
